Past Cricketers Second Re-Union 1950s – 1980s

The second edition of the past cricketer’s re-union took place on 4 June 2022 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Westlands, Nairobi. (The first re-union was held in 2018). Once again it took the efforts of a dedicated group of people to enable the successful hosting of this important event in the Kenyan cricket calendar. The significance of the event was the meeting and renewal of friendships and comradeship between these cricketers, some of whom had not met each other for more than 10 years. It was a nostalgic moment for the cricketing fraternity at a time when Kenyan cricket is going through a steady decline especially in the international arena. Locally Kenyan cricket is picking up slowly but surely under the tutelage of veterans such as David Waters, Birju Shah, Vivek Mehta, Starfield Cricket Academy and Obuya Cricket Academy.

This group of veteran cricketers has so much to offer to the revival of Kenyan cricket; if only the Government Sports Ministry would be more democratic, transparent and inclusive. It is also important to note the rise of the Kenyan Women cricket team in recent times.

The organizing committee members for the re-union were:

Rajab Ali -Chairperson, Tariq Iqbal – Vice Chairman, Sandip Shah – Secretary / Treasurer, Subhash Modi – PRO Co-Ordinator, Bharat Ghelani – Overseas Liasion Officer, Jasbir Singh, Edward Tito and Alfred Njuguna.

The highlight of the evening was the awarding of special awards to 30 veteran cricketers, 19 upcoming cricketers and 8 awards in the special category group as follows:
